New furniture, a fresh coat of paint, or library refresh can make a huge difference in the look and feel of a school. For Jeffco schools across the district, these types of projects -- funded by the 2018 bond and capital improvement program -- will be sure to make an impact.
Referred to as FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment), this is the work that really brings the building to life. Creating a space that is functional, comfortable and inspiring. In Jeffco, many of our FF&E projects focus on furniture replacements. At Arvada K-8 (pictured below), new furniture in classrooms, entryway, and library gave the school a whole new look.
With a focus on meeting today’s teaching styles and durability, new classroom furniture in Jeffco schools looks a lot different than those uncomfortable desks in rows many of us remember. Flexible furniture allows educators to change their classroom layout to meet the instructional needs, from day-to-day. Additionally, this new furniture design gives students the freedom to move (think of a swivel stool) which has been shown to keep them focused and engaged during class time.
Big changes are coming to 15-20 schools in 2020 through FF&E projects. We will keep you updated on their progress at jeffcobuilds.org.
