High School Leaders

Hello High School Students,

Each summer Jeffco Schools offers an enrichment camp for gifted students called SPARKS. SPARKS is an opportunity for grade school aged kids who are interested in specific topics to spend two weeks immersed in their passions. SPARKS will run from June 17-28, 2019. We will start each morning at 8:00 and end our day at 3:45. This summer we will be working at Wheat Ridge High School at 9505 W 32nd Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.

We are looking for responsible high school leaders who are willing to volunteer their time assisting in classrooms and at lunch for our two week program. These leaders will be helping teachers instruct, set up, monitor kids and help in any way imaginable in the classroom.

This volunteer program is a great opportunity to build leadership skills, give back to the community and earn volunteer hours. This program will allow you to flourish in a leadership role unlike any other where you get to work with uniquely gifted children in a vast variety of course offerings (check out the following site: https://jeffco.ss12.sharpschool.com/programs/gifted_talented/g_t_s_p_a_r_k_s_camp for a course guide offerings). In addition to what this opportunity offers in regards to your experience, you also have the opportunity to receive 80 or more community service hours for your time. So, if you are a member of an organization such as National Honor Society or IB, this is a great way to earn those hours. For students who are interested in pursuing a career in education, this is also a wonderful opportunity to see how much you enjoy working in the classroom.

Many of you at this point have given some thought to your post-secondary college career. If you successfully complete the two weeks of volunteer work and in that time demonstrate that you are indeed an exemplary person to work with, we have an added incentive for you. Any volunteer who responsibly serves this summer will receive a letter of recommendation written by one of the GT administrators for you to use in your pursuit of college entrance. For volunteers who demonstrate superior responsibility and ability, one of us would be happy to serve as an employment reference as you pursue other work.

This is not a light commitment, so please take time to consider this opportunity. You must commit to the full two weeks. You will be given every chance experience a true reciprocal learning environment where you grow as a leader, educator, and student. If you decide you would like to apply, please click the link at the bottom of this page. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the high school coordinator, Angie Dryer (Angela.Dryer@jeffco.k12.co.us).

Sincerely,

The Jeffco SPARKS Team
