Student in classroom

As a result of the negotiations between the district and our teachers’ association last month, there will be additional non-student contact days during the current 2022-23 school year for elementary and K-8 schools as well as 2-hour delays for all schools to provide additional teacher professional time. View the 2022-23 Family Calendar here.

In Jeffco, our people are our strength. We are focused on cultivating a collaborative, inclusive team culture with high expectations for staff and student performance that contributes to instructional excellence and extraordinary student experiences. Essential to that are meaningful professional development and growth-related activities for our staff. During the additional non-student contact and 2-hour delays, our educators will be engaging in professional learning and planning focused on ensuring that Jeffco students are reading at grade level, proficient in math, and on track to graduate.

Additional Non-Student Contact Days for Elementary and K-8 Schools Only

Additional non-student contact days are being established for elementary and K-8 schools that have significantly less built-in planning and professional learning time as their colleagues in middle and high schools*, during the school day. As the district implements more healthy and equitable start times starting in the 2023-24 school year, these days will be revisited.

  • Monday, December 19
  • Tuesday, December 20
  • Friday, March 17

*Note: Traditional middle (6-8) and high schools (9-12 or 7-12 - junior/senior) will have school on non-student contact days. If you are unsure what this means for your family, please contact your student’s school.

2-Hour Delay for Teacher Time PK-12 (all district-managed schools)*

New this year, Jeffco will implement three, 2-hour delays to support teacher professional time. The same schedule used for 2-hour delays for inclement weather will be used on these days. PK-12 students will start their school day 2 hours later than their normal school day – i.e. a school’s 7:45 a.m. start will begin at 9:45 a.m. on late start days. All services will run 2 hours later than normal on these days including transportation. Morning preschool will be canceled on 2-hour delay days. For specific protocols around 2-hour delays, please see the inclement weather delay information; the same protocols will be followed. Identified dates for 2-hour delays for teacher professional time are below.

  • Thursday, October 27
  • Thursday, February 2
  • Thursday, May 4

Please note these dates in your family calendar. As the dates approach, the district and schools will send families reminders. The district is working on details related to before school care schedules and will provide more information about these services in the coming weeks. We recognize this is a new practice in Jeffco and as we implement it, we will check in with families, staff, and students to gather their feedback.

*Charter school students are excluded from these changes to the calendar. Charter school families, please follow your school calendar.
