Jeffco Public Schools FCB Report*

FCB REPORT (ENGLISH) FCB REPORT (ESPAÑOL)

Recognizing that decisions must be made taking into account the district’s large ecosystem of schools, the Board of Education has requested a report on all Jeffco elementary schools with data and information related to what is listed in the new FCB-R policy: educational program, operating costs, per pupil costs, staffing structures, student dislocation (geographic-transportation), building capacity, projected enrollment, desirability of site (safety-size-drainage), condition of physical plant, life expectancy of building, and community use of facility. At present, the FCB Report only includes elementary neighborhood schools, but additional schools will be added over time. While the FCB Report will be updated regularly, enhanced each year and used as an ongoing resource for a variety of district purposes, it will be especially beneficial in summer and fall 2022 as the District contemplates school closures and consolidations in alignment with Policy FCB.

The FCB Report will be delivered to the Board of Education and made publicly available on June 30. The Board will convene on July 26 at a special meeting to review the report.

How should school leaders and community members use the information found in the FCB Report? The data found in the FCB Report represent the factors that may be considered in decisions around school closures and consolidations. School leaders may use the report to better understand strengths and opportunity areas that can be woven into their school’s long-term strategic planning efforts.

No decisions about potential school closures are being made at this time. The board of education began their work by revising the district’s school closure and consolidation policy and processes. Now moving into Phase 1, the board will review the FCB Report. There will continue to be robust communication as the work moves forward. More information will be provided to the community and there will be opportunities for engagement in the coming months. In addition, the data will be available on our website and updated regularly.

The district is focused on how this work will impact people—our students, families, staff, and neighbors. To provide extraordinary learning experiences for every student and extraordinary professional experiences for every staff member in a declining enrollment environment, Jeffco must concentrate its resources into fewer schools. School closures and consolidations is among the most difficult work any school district takes on in partnership with its communities. The conversations will be challenging but the work is critical. Moving Jeffco from good, to great, to extraordinary requires both building on our many bright spots and confronting our challenges through the lens of opportunity.
