Closing School Impacts

For Families at Schools Recommended to Close

  • Your school will remain open through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
  • Because the school year is underway, schools are not staffed to serve additional students, therefore, families should remain in their school this year and delay transitions until the 2023-24 school year.
  • If you are interested in visiting the school your school may be consolidating with, there will be two opportunities for organized school tours prior to November 10 and individual meetings can be scheduled as requested.
  • If your student is in a Center Program at a school recommended for closure, the Jeffco Student Success team will be in touch with you regarding the location of your program in the 2023-24 school year.
  • If you prefer for your student to attend a school other than the new neighborhood school in 2023-24, you may choose that through the Round 1 EnrollJeffco choice process, which will open on December 6, 2022 and close January 13, 2023; After a Board vote on November 10, you will have access to a staff member who will assist you with your 2023-24 school year enrollment decision.
  • Eligibility for transportation in 2023-24 will be determined by the distance students live from the school (one mile for elementary students) and safety concerns unique to their attendance area (policy EEA).
  • As a result of consolidations, we anticipate that the new neighborhood school for the area will require more certified and classified staff to serve incoming students; your child’s teacher will have the opportunity to apply for available positions at the new neighborhood school for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Your school principal will continue to lead your school for the remainder of the school year and will be considered for school leadership opportunities in Jeffco for the 2023-24 school year.

For Staff at Schools Recommended to Close

  • The District’s ultimate goal during the staffing process for the consolidation of schools will be to support staff members in finding positions which allows them to strive towards achieving their career goals and aspirations so that they may be able to provide the best educational opportunities for our students.
  • Your school will remain open through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
  • The District will follow JCEA and JESPA master agreements to support staff members with navigating employment opportunities in the 2023-24 school year.
  • Under the JCEA agreement, non-probationary teachers will have employment for one year following the displacement process and will be prioritized for interviews during the hiring process. Licensed educators may seek ongoing mutual consent positions rather than being placed into a position for one year.
  • The District will offer opportunities for certified staff to gain endorsements in hard to staff areas during the 2022-2023 school year at no cost to them, in an effort to be more competitive for positions and assist the District with filling vacancies in the 2023-24 school year.
  • Jeffco’s HR department will support certified and classified staff with resume writing and interview preparation for the 2023-24 hiring season.
  • Due to current and projected trends in staffing levels, classified staff members will be in high need in the 2023-24 school year for positions districtwide; we believe we will be able to retain a majority of classified staff needing reassignment from consolidation.
  • JCEA and Jeffco are partnering this fall to discuss a potential internal-only hiring season prior to consideration of external applicants.
  • As a result of consolidations, we anticipate that the new receiving neighborhood school for the area will require more certified and classified staff to serve incoming students; you will have the opportunity to apply for available positions at the new receiving neighborhood school for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Principals in schools that will close at the end of this school year will be considered for school leadership opportunities in Jeffco for the 2023-24 school year.
