Fairmount Elementary broadcast students spend the day with Jeffco Communications Team

Six students from Fairmount Elementary joined the Jeffco Public Schools' Communications team on Wednesday, October 16th to get hands-on communications and broadcast experience.
The six students are part of the Fairmount broadcast journalism and communications program, known as Fairmount Production Studio. The program is open to 5th graders, and students have to audition to become part of the school's communications team.
Ryan, Owen, Sadie, Lilli, Lev and Blake spent the day with Jeffco Communications team members learning about social media, writing for the web, writing for video, graphic design, on-camera action, editing and interviewing. And the students even had the chance to produce a
Facebook Live broadcast where they all interviewed Dr. Jason Glass, Superintendent and Chief Learner for Jeffco Public Schools.
Students worked with their teachers, Anglea Blomquist and Jayme Peck, in order to prepare for the day, which included writing a script, shooting video and editing the final product that will be their weekly in-school Friday newscast-style broadcast. Students produced three segments of their weekly newscast, two of which featured their school's monthly theme around being a kindness ninja, and one segment that featured a fundraiser event involving pumpkins and trebuchet.
The students weren't the only ones learning something new - the students were thrilled to show the Jeffco Communications team the latest TikTok dances and even helped Jeffco launch their own TikTok social media channel with a dual-team dance feature to the popular song "Old Town Road".
